Book Description: Carrie Carter’s small café in Seaside, New Jersey, is populated with a motley crew of locals although Carrie only has eyes for Greg Barnes. He’s recovering from a vicious crime that three years ago took the lives of his wife and children—and from the year he tried to drink his reality away. While her heart does a happy Snoopy dance at the sight of him, he never seems to notice her, to Carrie’s chagrin.
When Carrie’s dishwasher is killed and her young waitress disappears, Greg finds himself drawn into helping Carrie solve the mysteries … and into her life. But Carrie has a painful past, too, and when the reason she once ran away shows up in town, the fragile relationship she’s built with Greg threatens to implode from the weight of the baggage they both carry. Two wounded hearts struggle to find a way to make one romance work. Failure seems guaranteed when Carrie locates her waitress but is taken hostage.
My Review: I've been a long time fan of Gayle Roper's books. Shadows on the Sand is quite an interesting tale. I was slightly "lost" at the beginning of the read before I realized that this is book 5....I think one should read books 1-4....would probably help to understand all that is going on.
However, getting to know Carrie and her sister as they jointly run a small town diner. Knowing all that they had to go through just to get to where they are today was a story in itself!
The intrigue of Greg's life and that devastating "act" that cost him the lives of his family---only to leave him with a mind numbing pain. But with Carrie's go.get.'em attitude, Greg can seemingly do anything! That's what good friends are for!
This is one of those fast paced mysteries that keeps the reader turning the page to find out what the Carrie and Greg will turn up next?!?!
A great suspenseful novel with romance and intrigue around every corner.
