To Have and to Hold: Three Autumn Love Stories (A Year of Weddings Novella) by Betsy St. Amant , Katie Ganshert , Becky Wade

Book Description:  They’ve helped orchestrate the perfect day for countless couples. Now twelve new couples will find themselves in the wedding spotlight in the second Year of Weddings novella collection.

My Thoughts:   Ahh, sweet autumn and love are in the air.  And To Have and To Hold is a wonderful book with three novellas to have for those crisp fall days.
The first novella is Love Takes the Cake: A September Wedding Story by Betsy St. Amant.  Charlotte Cantrell is always the baker never the bride.  Then one day Will comes into her bakery and "catches"  her eye.
Charlotte is a single mom and not sure if Will is the guy.  she really likes him but....
Then she she hired to bake a cake for a wedding and finds out that Will is the best man at this wedding.
Charlotte is working but would like to have a better relationship with Will.
A sweet love story of letting go and moving on.

The Perfect Arrangement: An October Wedding Story by Katie Ganshert is my favorite of all three novellas.
I just love the wall flower and how she blooms after meeting her man.  All about flowers and love!

And then there's Love in the Details: A November Wedding Story by Becky Wade.  A cute story of a wedding coordinator and the groom's best friend.
Two people meeting for a wedding, with no intention of building a relationship...only hoping to help.

Weddings are fun and wonderful and in this book one will find three short stories of fun and romance.

Fabulous Friday!

Dragonflies have always been pretty but never really crossed my path, until this summer.
It seems like this summer dragonflies were abundant and made themselves known.
One afternoon as I sat on the back porch reading, the most beautiful dragonfly glided across the patio.
He was so happy that he literally came to the beginning of the concrete and began a slow descent then he dipped up then he dipped down.  He did this all across the patio.
Honestly, it was the most beautiful sight.
But what I felt was his exuberance.  His happiness.  Yes!  The dragonfly was happy.
That afternoon I realized that pandemic or no pandemic I, too, can flit and flight and have a happy attitude.

The Courtship Basket (An Amish Heirloom Novel) by Amy Clipston

Book Description:  Years ago, a picnic basket brought two hearts together. For Rachel and Mike, history may be about to repeat itself.

Rachel Fisher is devastated when the young man she’s loved for years leaves her to date her best friend. Her heart is broken, and she has all but given up on love. Determined to keep her mind off the pain, she starts teaching at an Amish school for children with learning disabilities.
Since his father became ill, Mike Lantz has been overwhelmed with the responsibility of providing for his family and caring for his six-year-old brother, John. When John joins Rachel’s class and she learns that his mother is deceased and his father sick, she desperately wants to help the family, even with something as simple as a meal.
With her parents’ old picnic basket, Rachel begins sending food to the Lantz family. As the weeks go by, John’s grades start to improve, and the attraction grows between Rachel and Mike. They can’t deny that their friendship is growing toward something more, but both of them are hesitant to risk a more serious relationship.
The last thing Rachel wants is another heartbreak, and Mike is worried about providing for his loved ones. Will the two be able to reconcile their past hurts with new hope for the future?

My Thoughts:    Amy Clipston is one of my favorite authors!

In this wonderful read about a picnic basket and heart in love one finds that history sometimes, invariably, repeat itself.

Rachel Fisher is completely devastated when the young man that she is dating leaves her/breaks up with her to go with her best friend.  Her heart aches from broken promises.

But when Mike Lantz's father becomes ill and he is responsible for caring for his family it seems overwhelming.  But then Rachel begins to send food to the family in her parents' old picnic basket. Because that's what the Amish do . . . they help each other in times of crisis.

Well, as Mike's dad begins to recover and less responsibility is required of him, he begins to see Rachel.

But Rachel doesn't want heartbreak again.

This is a fantastic story.  Yes, it is about the Amish but it is so well written that it grabs the reader attention.

Loved, loved this story!

When Death Draws Near (A Gwen Marcey Novel) by Carrie Stuart Parks

Book Description:  Gwen Marcey takes death in stride. Until she’s faced with her own mortality.
Forensic artist Gwen Marcey is between jobs when she accepts temporary work in Pikeville, Kentucky—a small town facing big-city crime. But before Gwen can finish her first drawing of the serial rapist who is on the loose, the latest witness vanishes. Just like all the others.
Gwen suspects a connection between the rapist and the “accidental” deaths that are happening around town, but the local sheriff has little interest in her theories. When her digitally-obsessed teenage daughter joins her, Gwen turns her attention to a second assignment: going undercover in a serpent-handling church. She could get a handsome reward for uncovering illegal activity—a reward she desperately needs, as it seems her breast cancer has returned. But snakes aren’t the only ones ready to kill. Can Gwen uncover the truth—and convince anyone to believe her—before she becomes a victim herself?
My Thoughts:  Gwen Marcey is quite a gal with quite a few obstacles in her path but she doesn't let that stop her from living or trying to catch a killer.
Not only is Gwen a forensic artist but she brings "dust" to life with her drawings, sculptures and intricate details.  Gwen also has a teen daughter who is now being sent to live with her, she is divorced and tries to balance her life with some sanity like talking to her ex-husband in her head.
In this particular case the police need help finding a serial rapist.  Terrible, haunting crimes but it gets better with an underground religion and trying to understand why she is getting such a cold shoulder from the local police . . . after she was sent to this department to help solve the crimes.  Gwen gets the feeling that the police chief is involved....dangerous, surprising results!
Quite a read!  Definitely not  read for the faint of heart and definitely not read for those late summer nights!
Love her or leave her Gwen is quite a gal!
But a surprising ending....

Fabulous Friday!

Yesterday I had some cute visitors.  Yes, hummingbirds came to visit.
As I watched them flitting back and forth I noticed that as soon as one
came to drink of the delicious nectar he would soon fly away.
Curious I kept watching and noticed that there were two more
sweet little birds in the air dive bombing the little guy at the feeder.
At first, I thought it was hilarious and then I thought aren't we that way
with our Lord?
He gives us so many blessings and we keep dive bombing the guy next to us.
I gently said to the birds. "there's enough nectar for all of you.  Just find
a place and drink."
And that's all the Lord wants us to do too.
Find a place to drink in all of the Living Water He has for us.

The Amish Christmas Secret (Indiana Amish Brides) by Vannetta Chapman

Book Description: All she wants for Christmas is the truth.
A struggling Amish woman. Her mysterious new neighbor.
And a secret that could change everything…Becca Schwartz’s curiosity is going to be a problem. When Amish secret millionaire Daniel Glick moves to Shipshewana for seclusion, he doesn’t expect his pretty new neighbor to ask so many questions. Or to be so generous, despite her family’s poverty. As Daniel falls for Becca, his secret looms between them. This Christmas, can he finally give her the truth…and his heart?

My Thoughts:  Not only is this a Love Inspired read, it's by Vannetta Chapman and it's Christmas mystery!
So many good things in one small book.
After so many crazy things going on in this world of ours it's wonderful to begin to read love stories about Christmas.  Christmas seems to be a season of hope and love.
Also, this is the 6th book in the Indiana Brides.  I went back and read stories 1 & 2 and realized that each story is about a different couple in Indiana.  So I jumped right into this story.  This is the story of an Amish millionaire, Daniel, and a finically strapped Amish woman, Becca,  struggling to make ends meet with a comical rooster to boot.  The mystery and the rooster made be chuckle as I read this fun book.
I loved it!
Make sure you grab a copy of this inexpensive book to jump start your Christmas reading!

WOW {Warm Oven Wednesday}

Blue Watermelon Walnut Salad

I found this recipe in Reader's Digest and yes!
this salad can become an addiction!

Ingredients:

1 cup walnut pieces
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon soy sauce
2 cups inexpensive basalmic vinegar
1 cup sugar
1 sprig fresh rosemary
4 ounces fresh baby greens
2 oranges seedless, peeled and sectioned
4 cups seedless watermelon cubes
2 cups seedless grapes, halved
2 cups fresh, trimmed and sliced strawberries
1 cup crumbled blue cheese

Instructions:

Heat the walnuts in a seasoned wok or heavy non-stick sauté pan over medium for a minute and stir in the sugar and soy sauce. Adjust heat to prevent burning while constantly stirring the nuts until the sugar melts. Continue to stir and cook until the nuts begin to stick and the mixture is getting sticky. Spread the nuts over a sheet of waxed or parchment paper and cool. Break apart into small pieces and crumble. Set aside.

Heat the vinegar in a heavy non-corrosive saucepan over medium heat and stir in sugar. Continue to stir and adjust heat to bring the mixture to a simmer. Add the rosemary sprig to the pan. Continue to simmer until the contents of the pan reduces by 1/2 its original volume. Set aside.

Divide the greens among 6 or 8 salad plates and arrange the orange sections, watermelon, grapes and strawberries over the greens. Drizzle the balsamic syrup over the fruit and the cheese crumbles over that. Top with the candied walnut pieces and serve.

Servings:

Serves 6 to 8.

Into the Whirlwind by Elizabeth Camden

Book Description: As owner of the 57th Illinois Watch Company, Mollie Knox's future looks bright until the night the legendary Great Chicago Fire destroys her beloved city. With her world crumbling around her, Mollie will do whatever it takes to rebuild in the aftermath of the devastating fire.

Zack Kazmarek, an influential attorney for one of Chicago's finest department stores, is a force to be reckoned with among the city's most powerful citizens. Bold and shrewd, he's accustomed to getting exactly what he wants--until he meets Mollie Knox, the beguiling businesswoman just beyond his reach. In the tumult as the people of Chicago race to rebuild a bigger and better city, Mollie comes face-to-face with the full force of Zack's character and influence. Zack believes this may finally be his chance to win her, but can Mollie ever accept this man and his whirlwind effect on her life, especially with her treasured company on the line?

My Thoughts: I've read everyone of Elizabeth Camden's books and I've not been disappointed yet.  But I must say that Into the Whirlwind is my favorite.
The story begins with the Chicago Fire.  That horrible fire that took almost everything in its path including many a fine establishment such as Mollie's 57th Illinois Watch Company.
Six days earlier Zach (Zachariasz Kazmarek)wrote Mollie a note stating that he wanted to meet with her as an attorney.  Mollie is clueless as to the reason and then the Great Fire begins.
Ironically, it's Zach who grabs Mollie's hand and practically saves her from becoming engulfed in the fire.
Mollie can't cut a head of cabbage but she is one shrewd business woman.
The relationship between Mollie and Zach is tense but with the all that they've been through together can Mollie trust Zach in this whirlwind?
A wonderful historical story that will make the reader feel almost as if she has gone through this terrible time in history.

FAITHPRINTS Touching Your World For Jesus by Rebekah Binkley Montgomery

Book Description:  Faithprints paints a portrait of Jesus–a Faithprint–to help others know him. Matching opportunities with Holy Spirit insight and practical tips, author Rebekah Binkley Montgomery shows where to look for Faithprint opportunities in unexpected places.

My Thoughts:  FAITHPRINTS Touching Your World For Jesus by Rebekah Binkley Montgomery is an inspirational read for Christians who want to leave a faith legacy to this world.
Chapter One begins with how we can/need make boundaries with those who are unsaved.  This is an interesting chapter that I believe is an important beginning to how we begin to help others.
Then halfway through the book is How Does This Faithprint Fit You?  This is really where the rubber meets the road!  How can you meet and help others?
On page 135 the story of Paulette and the two first grade teachers is an exemplary story of how we can give mittens to Jesus.
This is an easy, flowing read with only 211 pages teaches, Christians, how to leave and be a faithprint.  Don't you just love that word?  Faithprint?!  What a great way to be a follower of Jesus Christ!
I recommend this wonderful book to all who want to leave a lasting Faithprint for Jesus.

The Mockingbird's Song (Volume 2) (Amish Greenhouse Mysteries) by Wanda E. Brunstetter

Book Description:  Sylvia has been nearly paralyzed with grief and anxiety since the tragic death of her husband, father, and brother in a traffic accident. She tries to help in the family’s greenhouse while caring for her two young children, but she prefers not to have to deal with customers. Her mother’s own grief causes her to hover over her children and grandchildren, and Sylvia seeks a diversion. She takes up birdwatching and soon meets an Amish man who teaches her about local birds. But Sylvia’s mother doesn’t trust Dennis Weaver, and as the relationship sours, mysterious attacks on the greenhouse start up again.

My Thoughts:  After reading The Crow's Call by Wanda E. Brunstetter I was so excited to receive this next book.
This is a wonderful story of love and grace.  And it's a somewhat   sequel to The Crow's Call.  It's about the women who lost their husbands in the tragic buggy accident.  So, in a way the books should be read in order.
Poor Sylvia she was once a married woman and independent in the community.  And then she becomes a widow with two young children.
And mothers!  Mothers try so hard to help but so many times they inadvertently get in the way.  Hence, Sylvia's mother, who also lost her husband, is giving Sylvia a headache by trying to run her life.
A wonderful story.  This is not a fast paced story so if you're looking for a fast paced mystery, this isn't it.  This is more of a cozy mystery with alot of Amish facts for those of us who love reading about the Amish community.

The Governess of Highland Hall by Carrie Turansky

Book Description:  Worlds lie between the marketplaces of India and the halls of a magnificent country estate like Highland Hall. Will Julia be able to find her place when a governess is neither upstairs family nor downstairs help?

Missionary Julia Foster loves working alongside her parents, ministering and caring for young girls in India. But when the family must return to England due to illness, she readily accepts the burden for her parents’ financial support. Taking on a job at Highland Hall as governess, she quickly finds that teaching her four privileged, ill-mannered charges at a grand estate is more challenging than expected, and she isn’t sure what to make of the estate’s preoccupied master, Sir William Ramsey.

Widowed and left to care for his two young children and his deceased cousin Randolph’s two teenage girls, William is consumed with saving the estate from the financial ruin. The last thing he needs is any distraction coming from the kindhearted-yet-determined governess who seems to be quietly transforming his household with her persuasive personality, vibrant prayer life, and strong faith.

While both are tending past wounds and guarding fragile secrets, Julia and William are determined to do what it takes to save their families—common ground that proves fertile for unexpected feelings. But will William choose Julia’s steadfast heart and faith over the wealth and power he needs to secure Highland Hall’s future?

My Thoughts:  The Governess of Highland Hall by Carrie Turansky is one of those reads that captures the reader's attention from page one.
Julia Foster is a sweet, kind young woman with character and creativity.  So, when things don't go "right"  for her family, for they must leave the mission field, Julia takes a position as a governess at Highland Hall.
Sir William is the caretaker/parent of his deceased cousin's two teenage girls.  How does a single man care for two teenage girls?  Well, this is where Julia comes in.  However, Mrs. Emmitt does not want a governess for the two girls and tries to get rid of Julia.  Lies and deceit!
Sir William just wants a governess who can handle the girls and doesn't want to get involved with the lady!  But Julia has a stubborn streak and won't back down!  Ahh!  Some intrigue and mystery surrounding both Sir William and Julia!
I loved Jane Eyre and this book reminds a little of that story . . . . a governess, a man of means and romance.
A Christian romance that promotes biblical character, somewhat like Joseph when Potiphar's wife lied about him.
A sweet, engaging story that is quite well written!

Harriet Beamer Strikes Gold {Harriet Beamer Series} by Joyce Magnin

Book Description:  After a whirlwind cross-country move, Harriet and her donut-loving basset hound, Humphrey, have settled into a new life in Grass Valley, California. When Harriet learns that she's going to be a grandma for the first time and get a new suite with room for her salt-and-pepper shaker collection, she can't wait for her best friend, Martha, to come visit so she can share her good news. But adventure is never far away when Harriet is around. After listening to the pleas of a desperate teen whose daddy needs money right away---and happens to have a gold mine to lease---Harriet falls hook, line, and sinker into the venture. Although she's nervous about her investment, Harriet chooses to keep it a secret from her son, Henry, and his wife. She can only imagine what she'll do if this turns out to be her ticket to a golden windfall. When suspicions arise, though, it becomes clear that Harriet may never see an ounce of gold. But will she continue to trust and risk losing everything? The fate of the young teen and a family emergency show Harriet where her true treasure lies.

My Thoughts:  I absolutely Loved the first book in the Harriet Beamer Series, Harriet Beamer Rides the Bus!
So, I waited and snatched up this book, Harriet Beamer Strikes Gold, as soon as it was available, because I knew that I would not be disappointed.
Oh!My!  Joyce Magnin writes with a humorous flair that had me laughing out loud!  Harriet Beamer is a force to be reckoned with, for sure!
Harriet has a heart as big as Texas so when a "desperate" teen talks Harriet into leasing a gold mine her daddy has for lease....well, Harriet secretly makes her investment. Harriet just knows that this will be the best investment for her and help others too.
Then there's Harriet's unbelievable salt and pepper shaker collection.  She collects the most unique salt and pepper shakers.  I think her collection shows her love for people who are most unusual.  She sees the heart.
Then the fun begins!
Never try to cross a woman, especially an older woman who is quite determined.  Just when things begin to go sour, Harriet (and the teen) learn where "real gold" lies.
This read was beyond my expectations!  Loved, loved it!

Angels in the Fire: The Dramatic True Story of an Impossible Rescue By: Dann Stadler

Book Description: After miraculously surviving a horrific crash caused by a drunk driver, Stadler and his wife, Tracey, faced months of surgeries and hospitalizations and struggled to rebuild their lives---only to suffer more tragedy! Discover how God kept them from despair and brought blessing into their lives---and can do the same for you.

My Thoughts:  Angels In The Fire by Dann Stadler is a faith lifter!  If you're one of those people who suffers from chronic pain, a disease which keeps you in constant pain or you just plain suffer then this is a must read for YOU!
Be warned this is a somewhat.sad very realistic story of real people who literally went through the fire.
I am a believer in God's angels.  I believe that God sends His heavenly beings to help us, humans, and to protect us.
Dann and Tracey were involved in a terrible  car accident that a drunk driver caused.  They lived!  But only because God sent His heavenly beings to  surround Dann and Tracey.
Dann and Tracey have gone through surgeries, pain, and despair but God sends His angels to minister to them just a the right time.
In chapter 19, on page 184, Dann tells an shivering tale of how God's angel saved Tracey from certain disaster.
I love the ending, "I do hope readers find inspiration from our story, gain insight into their own struggles and know the trails of life are but fleeting to God's abiding love."
This is a book that is for all walks of faith.  An encouraging read!
