Raging Storm (The Remnant, Book Two) by Vannetta Chapman

Book Description:  When a massive solar flare wiped out all modern technology across the globe, the small town of Abney, Texas, was thrown into chaos. Shelby Sparks and her teenage son, Carter, have found refuge, but Shelby knows she can't simply remain hidden. Carter is a type 1 diabetic in need of insulin—and Shelby will risk her life traveling to Austin to make sure he gets it.
Shelby's best friend and high school sweetheart, Max Berkman, won't even consider letting her make the perilous journey alone. Together, they manage to reach the capital—only to discover that while things are desperate in Abney, Austin has turned into an urban nightmare on the brink of anarchy.
Shelby and Max's search for medical supplies will lead them into terrifying territory, where the only thing more uncertain than finding what they need is the hope of making it out of the city alive.

My Thoughts:  I enjoy reading novels by Vannetta Chapman.  I've read all of the Amish novels that she has written and now that she is writing  dystopia novels (an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one) I'm in a whole new world. 😊
Raging Storm is a great title for this story. In a world that has gone haywire after a solar flare literally takes out all of the electronic systems.  No electricity!  No phones!  No computers!  No life! Actually, no life is how many people see the solar flare.  Stores have closed and are now bare because of looters. But there are people who can and will survive by doing all they can to help others.  Then there are those people who will take all they can because it benefits them.
Life has changed dramatically!  Cooking has become a bare bones necessity.  Vehicles with computer chips simply won't run. Highways are clogged with abandoned vehicles.  And there are no phone systems, so communication is limited.
Shelby and her high school sweetheart, Max, decide that they must go to Austin (yes, this story takes place in Texas!) to find insulin for Shelby's son, Carter.  This trip to find insulin is the story of chaos in a world gone insane.
Police are no longer in the picture.  There is chaos everywhere.  Every man trying to take care of his own family.
I loved this story!  My heart was racing as I ran with Shelby and Max, I looked around every corner making sure that all was clear.  And when those "bad" men came along I held my breath with Shelby. Such an intense read!
I will warn you, though, once you begin reading this story you'll want to finish it, all in the same setting.
This action packed, gotta survive thriller is one of those I.Can't.Put.Down.Books!  Really!  But don't take my word for it . . . go read it for yourself.  😌
