Novel Interiors: Living in Enchanted Rooms Inspired by Literature by Lisa Borgnes Giramonti (Author), Ivan Terestchenko (Photographer)
Book Description: For those who have ever lost themselves in the stylish worlds of novels like Sense and Sensibility, The Age of Innocence, Wuthering Heights, The Picture of Dorian Gray and countless others, this design book embraces the fantasy of time and place, showing you how to bring some of those elements into your own home.
Lisa Giramonti inspires a new approach to decorating: by teaching us through the lens of worlds we may already know and love. With gorgeous photographs by World of Interiors photographer Ivan Terestchenko, aspirational quotes, and tailored reading lists, Novel Interiors reveals the essence and details of interiors mentioned in great literary works. This is a stunning, photo-driven book that shares enchanting and timeless ways to live more elegantly.
My Thoughts: Have you ever read a book such as, Withering Heights? And had a mental image, a picture of the house and interior but the images weren't as clear as you would have liked? Maybe, because, you had never since a pre Victorian feinting couch or a wood burning stove used for cooking?
Well, now there is a book, Novel Interiors: Living in Enchanted Rooms Inspired by Literature by Lisa Borgnes Giramonti (Author), Ivan Terestchenko (Photographer), that brings some of our favorite novels to life through photography.
This is an incredible book! The photographs are lovely. Love the title, Novel Interiors: Living in Enchanted Rooms.
It's interesting that through photographs we now can "see" what only our imaginations once made up. I enjoyed "seeing" my favorite novels come to life through photographs. The pictures made the novels more real for me.
Novel Interiors is one of those books that not only makes a lovely gift but it is a great conversation starter.
A beautiful book!

A Heart's Disguise (Journey of the Heart, Book 1) by Colleen Coble
Book Description: In the celebratory mood of the recently-ended Civil War, Sarah discovers her betrothed has been keeping a devastating secret.
While the tiny town of Wabash, Indiana, celebrates the end of the fighting, Sara Montgomery attends the parties, but inside she’s fighting a deep sadness. The love of Sara’s life, Rand Campbell, didn’t come back from the front.
So her brother and ailing father persuade her to pledge herself to another man—despite her misgivings. When Sarah finds out that Rand is in fact alive—and that her fiancĂ© Ben Croftner knew it—she indignantly breaks off their engagement.
Croftner doesn’t take rejection lightly—and a single woman with a sick father makes an easy target. He abducts Sarah, his intentions anything but honorable. Then Rand comes to her aid . . . only to reveal that he has been posted at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, and asks her to go with him as his wife.
Will Sarah leave her dying father’s side for the only man she’s ever loved? And what plans are forming in the jealous heart of Ben Croftner?
My Thoughts: A Heart's Disguise is a short book, just 96 pages but it doesn't end there . . . this is book one in a series. It was also part of a larger book and is now being made into a series. Some people may not like a series but, since I have not read the "larger" book, I am looking forward to the series.
This book takes place at the end of the Civil War and Sarah Montgomery is ever so glad that the war is over but she is quite sad her love, Rand Campbell, did not return from the war.
Her father is ill. So her ailing father and her brother "talk" her not becoming engaged to another man, Ben Croftner. Well, soon enough, Sarah finds out that her beloved is a live and that her now fiancee, Ben, knew this all along! Indignant! and feeling distrustful! Sarah breaks off her engagement. But Ben is not a good man and does not take rejection well!
Sarah becomes an easy target and Ben abducts her! Rand comes to save her.
But how will Ben take this turn of events and can Sarah leave her dying father to go with the love of her life?
A light historical read! Loved this read! And can't wait to read the other books in this series! And A HEART'S OBSESSION, book two, is scheduled to release on April 7, 2015.

Deadly Echoes (Finding Sanctuary 2) by Nancy Mehl
Book Description: After a youth filled with tragedy and upheaval, Sarah Miller's life is finally settled with all echoes of the past silent at last. She happily calls Sanctuary her home and spends her days teaching at the local school.
Sarah's joy at her recent reunion with her sister, Hannah, and meeting the niece she didn't know she had is too soon interrupted when Deputy Sheriff Paul Gleason informs Sarah her sister has been killed.
As she learns more about Hannah's death, the circumstances are eerily similar to their parents' murder. Sarah enlists Paul's help in digging deeper into the murders the police are dismissing as burglaries gone wrong. Paul's concern encourages Sarah's growing feelings for him, but as their investigation peels back the layers of lies almost twenty years old, they get close to uncovering the truth one person will do anything to hide--even if that means coming after the last remaining members of the Miller family.
My Thoughts: I've waited {I'm}patiently for this second book by Nancy Mehl. I love books penned by Nancy Mehl. And, of course, when there is a series I can hardly wait for the next book.
In the small Mennonite town of Sanctuary Sarah is a high school teacher. Sarah and her long lost sister, Hannah, have recently found each other. Sarah is fond of her sister and her eight-year-old niece. Sarah soon learns that Hannah may have found leads and why their parents were killed.
Who doesn't want Hannah and Sarah to find out why their parent were killed and what links will they go to keep this a secret?
Quite a suspenseful read.
Many leads and it seems that maybe, just maybe, Sarah needs to be careful of the men she associates with?
Nice romance...good and clean.
I loved this read and hope you will too!

--I really enjoyed Plundered Christmas--between the character dynamics and the plot twist I never saw coming--well done!
--Great series by Susan Lyttek!
Chat with Susan:
Why do you write the kind of books you do? I homeschooled and am homeschooling. These are the people I’ve been around for the last seventeen years. That’s also why I weave history in. Every homeschool resource I know targets multiple subjects and levels of learning.
Besides when you came to know the Lord, what is the happiest day in your life? My goal is for today, whatever day that is, to be the happiest. It doesn’t always work, especially when I get a piece of bad news or insufficient sleep, but it’s my goal. I want to live contentedly in what my Lord hands me each day.
What is your favorite season of the year? Christmas. Hands down. What’s special about it for you?? I love my heritage and the special traditions that we have. Every Christmas creates new memories that adds to the woven tapestry of what it is. I also love celebrating the arrival of the son of God in human form!
What is something that very few people know about you? I like to read my Bible in French. C’est vraiment la belle langue!
What three things about you would surprise readers? I have a second degree black belt in tae kwon do. I like LOUD music. (I’m a quiet person, so the music thing surprises most people.) I earned a marksman ribbon with the M-16 when I was in the Air Force.
What can you tell us about your current project? I assume you mean Plundered Christmas. In this mystery, we need to figure out why the Banet family has hidden their heritage all these years, in addition to learning who killed Margo’s nephew. Secrets can poison a family and damage relationships. As the Talbotts uncover the truth about Anne Bonny/Banet, it leads to healing for those who accept it.

{Blog Tour} Mist of Midnight: Daughters of Hampshire, Book One . . . Bookmark Giveaway too!
Book Description: Intriguing secondary characters and lush scenery contribute to the often sinister, even creepy, moments readers will come to anticipate. Infusing her story with mystery, tension, and emotion, Byrd strikes a fine balance between the darkness of a Gothic mystery and the sweetness of a captivating love story. Byrd—and BrontĂ«—fans will enjoy.
In the first of a brand new series set in Victorian England, a young woman returns home from India after the death of her family to discover her identity and inheritance are challenged by the man who holds her future in his hands.
Rebecca Ravenshaw, daughter of missionaries, spent most of her life in India. Following the death of her family in the Indian Mutiny, Rebecca returns to claim her family estate in Hampshire, England. Upon her return, people are surprised to see her… and highly suspicious. Less than a year earlier, an imposter had arrived with an Indian servant and assumed not only Rebecca’s name, but her home and incomes. That pretender died within months of her arrival; the servant fled to London as the young woman was hastily buried at midnight. The locals believe that perhaps she, Rebecca, is the real imposter. Her home and her father’s investments reverted to a distant relative, the darkly charming Captain Luke Whitfield, who quickly took over. Against her best intentions, Rebecca begins to fall in love with Luke, but she is forced to question his motives–does he love her or does he just want Headbourne House? If Luke is simply after the property, as everyone suspects, would she suffer a similar fate as the first “Rebecca”?
A captivating Gothic love story set against a backdrop of intrigue and danger, Mist of Midnight will leave you breathless.
My Thoughts: I love reading novels/stories penned by Sandra Byrd! Another favorite author!
In the Mist of Midnight we meet Rebecca Ravenshaw who has spent most off her life in India as the daughter of missionaries. It is important to note that Rebecca is the daughter of missionaries since this shows us why Rebecca has such sweet disposition and is always kind (not all missionary kids are this way but most are since they have to put themselves last and others first).
After the death of her family she returns home to find "a man," Captain Whitfield, who holds the keys to her future (literally!). He doesn't believe Rebecca is who she claims to be since there was an imposter who also claimed to be Rebecca Revenshaw but died and was hastily buried. (ahh! mist at midnight!). Will Captain Whitfield come to understand Rebecca? Can Rebecca trust him?
This is a fantastic gothic romance story.
One doesn't have to be a fan of gothic fiction to like this story . . . the intrigue, the 'eerieness', the suspense, and the why of.it.all make for a fantabulous read!
This is a nice christian (not preachy just sensible good living), cozy read (gothic romance cozy....I may have just made up a new genre).
And lastly the romance is nice. Not over done.
Such a great read and now to wait {im}patiently for the next one . . . Bride of Poseidon (2016).

{Kregel Blog Tour} The Babylon Contingency by Clifford Longley
Book Description: A riveting international adventure-mystery
Investigating a burglary at an English country house, Detective Chief Inspector Robbie Peele comes face to face with one of the most mysterious objects in world archaeology, the Phaestos Disk—and with the Middle Eastern terrorist cell determined to steal it.
The vital clue is a long abandoned Muslim village in Crete, where a Victorian gentleman explorer witnessed horrors that were meant to be secret and recorded what he saw in coded diaries. Seeking the truth about the Phaestos Disk, Peele and his assistant, Sarah Shipton, are on the cusp of solving the mystery when they are caught in an ancient Egyptian burial chamber during an earthquake.
In the end Peele has to ask far harder questions than simply who committed the original burglary. The origins of the Phaestos Disk are inextricably bound up with the Middle East peace process in ways that frustrate and astound him.
My Thoughts: Clifford Longley is a new author to me and then I realized why...this is not a Christian novel, although it’s distributed in the USA by a Christian publisher. It’s not exactly anti-Christian either. Except if you are looking for a christian read you will find murders, adultery, same-sex relationships, drinking, swearing, blasphemy which are in a non-perfect, non christian society.
Well, with that said, I found the book to be ho-hum. It was a disappointing read since there was no "real" action...just rather humdrum, run.of.the.mill.type.action. There are quite a few British cultural references which weren't hard too understand.
The story line just wasn't very interesting and I found the book to be somewhat boring.

Betting on Hope (A Four of Hearts Ranch Romance) by Debra Clopton
Book Description: A bet gone wrong. A small town’s meddling. And a cowboy intent on saving his ranch.
Maggie Hope is an advice columnist whose background leaves her with little advice to give . . . and it’s beginning to show. When Maggie fills in at an interview with champion horse trainer Tru Monahan, the on-camera chemistry between them is undeniable. Maggie’s bosses know this is the opportunity she's been looking for to launch her career—and their bank accounts. In order to save her column, Maggie takes Tru up on the bet that he can teach her to ride a quick-stepping cutting horse like any cowgirl, despite the fact that she has never been on a horse. And in the meantime, she can get the scoop on the man under the cowboy hat.
Tru has been on the competition circuit for longer than he’d like, but he knows it's the only way he can afford to keep the Four of Hearts Ranch that means so much to his ailing grandfather. So when his sponsors see the opportunity for Tru’s fans to get to know the star on a more intimate level, he knows he must oblige. To his dismay, Maggie not only invades his small town of Wishing Springs, but she also invades his heart, and that is something he cannot let any woman do—for her own good.
In Wishing Springs, Maggie finds what she has always been looking for: a community and a home. But when her past catches up to her, it threatens everything, even the tender hope that this town holds all of her heart’s desires.
My Thoughts: Oh.My.Goodness! I was so excited when I received Debra Clopton's newest book, Betting On Hope, Book 1. Debra Clopton writes funny, humorous, witty stories. When I need a light read, that's also a fun read, I go to Debra Clopton's books.
Betting On Hope is a play on words title. I love puns . . . double meanings!
In this read we meet Maggie Hope. You.gotta.love. Maggie! She is full of life and so funny! She's an advice columnist and at the last minute she fills in to interview a champion horse trainer, Tru Monahan. Well, Tru and Maggie have THAT chemistry! And, of course, Maggie's boss sees this as an opportunity to help Maggie's career and create some cash for their pockets, too.
For all the fun, there are some learning moments too. Life has ups and downs. And as Maggie finds out truth does come out. But it's all in how one owns up to truth and mistakes that makes the out come good/bad or hard/easy.
A fun western type story full of hope.

LOVE , LOVE this stuff! Making for those homemade Valentine's Day gifts! I just might eat a teeny bite too.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Bark
YIELD: 1 8x10 pieceCOOK TIME: 15 minutesTOTAL TIME: 1 houringredients:
- 8 ounces good quality, dark chocolate (70-80%), very finely chopped
- 6 ounces peanut butter chips
- 1 cup mini peanut butter cups
directions:
- In a microwave, double boiler, or chocolate melter, gently melt chocolate on the lowest possible heat setting. Stir regularly, removing from heat as needed. The goal here is to keep the temperature under 90 degrees, above which the chocolate will lose its temper. Be patient, keep stirring, and even with on and off low heat the chocolate will melt eventually.
- Meanwhile, melt peanut butter chips in a microwave safe bowl by microwaving on medium power in 20 second intervals, stirring until melted. If this mixture seems too thick, stir in a teaspoon or two of vegetable oil or shortening to thin it out.
- Pour melted chocolate onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Spread into an even layer (it will not cover the entire pan, just spread it until it's as thick as you want your final bark to be). Dollop lines of melted peanut butter chips on top of chocolate. Run a toothpick or skewer through the two kinds of chocolate in a circular motion to form decorative swirls.
- Sprinkle evenly with peanut butter cups. Let sit, uncovered at room temperature, for 1 to 2 hours or until set. Break or cut into serving size pieces.
*Note that if you melt your chocolate to a higher temperature or it somehow loses its temper, the chocolate may not set up completely. In which case, just refrigerate it until firm. While the bark is still perfectly edible, it is not as stable at room temperature and will need to be refrigerated.

Payback in Panama (The Cuban Trilogy, Book 3) by Noel Hynd
Book Description: After two attempts on her life, Alex is faced with the ultimate decision . . . kill or be killed. U.S. Treasury Agent Alexandra LaDuca is at a crossroads. Her job is beating her up, emotionally and psychologically. And the moral battle between her faith and her responsibilities is taking its toll on her effectiveness. For the first time, she wonders how long she can last. Forcing an end to her long-running and treacherous duel with the heads of the Dosi Cartel, Alex knows this is her last do-or-die operation. It's time call in all the favors owed to her. Her fight takes her into the criminal underground of America's east coast, south into the violent underworld of Central America, across Honduras and El Salvador, and finally to Panama for a shattering confrontation. Alex's career, her life, and her future with the man she loves---a future she never expected after the violent death of her fiance two years earlier---are all at stake. After a final payback in Panama, nothing will be the same . . . if she even survives.
My Thoughts: This is the third and final book in The Cuban Trilogy. I've read the previous two books, Hostage in Havana and Murder in Miami. And I LOVE these books by Noel Hynd!
Payback In Panama is probably my favorite of all three...maybe because the action and the end takes place. Or maybe, just maybe, because Alex has matured and finds her "place."
Now, in my humble opinion, the reader should read all three books in order. Reading the books in order gives the reader a sense of all that is going on in Alex's life, the "whole" why she is doing it and what "it" all means. I'm not trying to be ambiguous, I just don't want to give away the story.
This read has great action and suspense! Noel Hynd never disappoints me in this arena . . . I love the words he uses to describe the sights, smells and nerve binding tensions!
Alex is on assignment and at times the reader wonders if she will make it. The underworld of Central America is SO brutal.
A great christian suspense novel!

COTT {Clash of the Titles} Featured Novel: Secrets and Lies by Janet Sketchley
A single mother must protect her teenage son—from organized crime and from himself.
Secrets and Lies, by Janet Sketchley
About the novel:
Carol Daniels thinks she out-ran her enemies, until a detective arrives at her door with a warning from her convict brother. Minor incidents take on a sinister meaning. An anonymous phone call warns her not to hide again. Now she must cooperate with a drug lord while the police work to trap him. Carol has always handled crisis alone, but this one might break her. Late-night deejay Joey Hill offers friendship and moral support. Can she trust him? One thing’s certain. She can’t risk prayer.
What reviewers are saying:
“Secrets and Lies delivers engaging characters and a sweet romance in the midst of a single mom’s worst nightmare.” ~ Sandra Orchard, award-winning author of Deadly Devotion and Blind Trust
“Secrets and Lies takes up where Heaven’s Prey left off, and is another great thriller by Janet Sketchley. With the backdrop of music and family, Secrets and Lies could really be defined as a retelling of the Ultimate Redemption. Sketchley is very adept at writing about the sometimes intricate and confusing relationships that make up a family. This one is not to be missed.” ~ Linda Hall, award-winning author of Steal Away (Christian fiction) and Night Watch (mainstream)
A note from the author:
Secrets and Lies is a book 2 in the Redemption’s Edge series. I met Carol, the heroine, through writing her brother Harry’s story in Heaven’s Prey, and I knew her life had not been easy. I also knew she needed the Lord. Secrets and Liesgives her the chance to find Him—unless her enemies find her first. For more about Carol and the other key characters, visit the Secrets and Lies book page. Scroll past the buy links, and you'll find interviews and features, plus a YouTube playlist of the classic oldies (with a few extras) mentioned by title in the novel. This is a Christian novel, but Carol loves her mainstream classic rock. Check out the Secrets and Lies playlist on YouTube. There are a few other things in there that only make sense if you've read the book.
What COTT voters had to say:
"Janet Sketchley writes with care and integrity, creating suspenseful stories that stay with the reader for a long time."
"I love a good mystery/suspense read and Secrets & Lies looks fantastic!""Secrets and Lies by Janet Sketchley intrigues me and I think, of the six books shown, I would be most likely to add this one to my pile of books to read.""In "Secrets & Lies", Janet Sketchley has written another "can't put me-down book". It equals "Heaven's Prey" and may even surpass it. Can't wait for the third "Redemption's Edge" novel to be published. Keep up the good work, Janet!""Janet Sketchley - this book sounds like something I would love!""Almost finished Secrets & Lies. It's another "page turner" like Heaven's Prey.""Secrets and Lies - great cover for a great read.""It's such a busy month, but I'm really looking forward to getting back to "Secrets & Lies.""Janet Sketchley, keep on doing what God's calling you to do! Exciting things lie ahead!""Janet, despite the darkness indicated in your title, I'm confident that in "Secrets and Lies" you bring forth the light of truth and the triumph of redemption.""Janet, You continue to inspire me! You went for it and look at where you are now? 2 novels under your belt! Can't wait to see what God has in store...""I thoroughly enjoy reading Janet Sketchley's novels. I feel like I personally know the characters. Best of luck Janet!"
About the author: Janet Sketchley is the author of Heaven’s Prey and Secrets and Lies, two novels of suspense and redemption (available as print and ebooks). She also blogs about faith and books. Janet loves adventure stories, worship music, tea and Formula 1 racing. Like Carol in Secrets and Lies, she enjoys music and tea. Unlike Carol, Janet isn’t related to a dangerous offender, has a happy home life, and has never been threatened by a drug lord. May those tidbits continue to hold true!
Fans of Christian suspense are invited to join Janet’s writing journey through her monthly newsletter.
