the stars shine bright by Sibella Giorella

Book Description:  After the FBI suspends her for bending its rules, Special Agent Raleigh Harmon is looking for a chance to redeem her career and re-start her life.
Sent undercover to a thoroughbred horse track, Raleigh takes on a double life to find out who's fixing the races. But when horses start dying and then her own life is threatened, Raleigh realizes something bigger-and more sinister-is ruining Emerald Meadows.
She's never felt more alone.
Her one contact with the FBI is Special Agent Jack Stephanson, a guy who seems to jump from antagonistic to genuine friend depending on the time of day. And she can't turn to her family for support. They're off-limits while she's undercover, and her mother isn't speaking to her anyway, having been confined to a mental hospital following a psychotic breakdown. Adding insult to her isolation, Raleigh's fiance wants them to begin their life together-now-precisely when she's been ordered not to be herself.
With just days left before the season ends, Raleigh races to stop the killing and find out who's behind the track's trouble, all the while trying to determine if Jack is friend or foe, and whether marrying her fiance will make things better-or worse.
Raleigh is walking through the darkest night she's faced, searching for a place where the stars shine bright.

My Review:  I have been an avid fan of Sibella Giorello's books since reading The Stones Cry Out.  And Oh!My!  I've waited for this book and it was worth the wait!
I love the story line of this "series" and I love Raleigh Harmon.
Raleigh is a tough.as.nails lady but on the inside she is just a sugar plum trying to find her place in life like the rest of the human race.
Raleigh is a fighter for the justice of the right and no matter what it takes Raleigh is out to find redemption for the wronged!
Mystery and suspense follow Raleigh wherever she goes.
It seems that Raleigh may always have a somewhat dysfunctional family.  In this read her mother seems to have had a mental breakdown.
AH! And then there's Jack!  Jack who is always there for Raleigh and answers when she is need of help.  Good ole' Jack!
But in this read it seems that Raleigh and Jack may not be able to work together.
This read was fast paced and I loved, loved it! The story line of this read was slightly different in pitch than the other books in this series.  Raleigh is more confident and her faith is stronger...she's grown and matured!
As with all the books in this "series" the reader can read each book as a stand alone but once you read one you'll want to read them all!  It's like eating one Lay's potato chip...you can't just eat one!

  1. Read The Rivers Run Dry and really liked it! So did my husband. Started The Stones Cry Out and am liking just as much! Ordered the paperback version for my mom as mine is on Kindle. The Starts Shine Bright will definitely be next!

  2. While on our trip, I read Stones Cry Out to John. When I finished, he said, "Read the next one." So while ridding down the highway, I downloaded The Clouds Roll Away (love my 3G Kindle) and started reading. We really like Sibella Giorello's writing!
