the Gospel Story Bible by Marty Machowski

Book Description:  Can a Bedtime Story Actually Change Your Life? It is easy to forget Jesus in the midst of frantic schedules, family squabbles, and conflicting priorities. But the truth is that he is the hero of every story, including these ordinary ones. This is why Marty Machowski puts God's plan of salvation in Christ on continuous display in The Gospel Story Bible. The easy-to-read storybook introduces your family to many captivating people, places, and events from the Bible's Old and New Testaments, showing how each one ultimately points to Jesus. As you share these Bible Stories together, you and your family will meet Jesus and learn a new, life-changing way of recognizing Christ as the hero of every story. Vibrant illustrations by A. E. Macha, child-friendly discussion questions, and Scripture references accompany each narrative to help you lead your family in exploring the Bible. You will be delighted to discover how easily even a young child can understand the original text of a story that he or she has already come to love. Ideal as a storybook for your preschooler, a devotional for your grade school student, a refresher for the adult believer, or an introduction for the new one, The Gospel Story Bible is also a companion to Long Story Short: Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God and the forthcoming Gospel Story Sunday School curriculum.

My Review:  the Gospel Story Bible by Marty Machowski and illustrated by A.E. Macha is a new and modern Bible story/lesson book.  What caught my attention in this wonderful, creative book is the illustrations!  Lots and lots of color!  The Bible stories/lessons follow the "real Bible."  Though Marty puts the stories into "kid speak."
The question is asked, "Can a Bedtime Story Actually Change Your Life?"  My answer, "No."  Let me explain why I say No, a bedtime story can't change your life...It's not the story that will change a child's life but the Word of God that is put into the child's heart that truly changes a life.  The stories that are presented in this book are gospel and have colorful illustrations but, I believe, only if a parent/grandparent/guardian takes time to read and "do" the Let's Talk About It! with the child will this book make a difference.  So, no the book itself can't change a heart but the Word that is presented will probably change and make a difference in the life of a child.
My eleven year old and I read The Temple Complete  (Ezra 4-6) p.154, and enjoyed discussing why Jesus called His body the temple.
On the page across from the story/lesson is a page with a colorful picture of that particular story and a Let's Talk About It! with questions to discuss with the child after the reading.
This is a wonderful asset to any family devotional time!  And would make a wonderful gift!
