Book Description: A corrupt judge in a mob murder case. A disillusioned pastor, hungry for power. A cynical reporter, sniffing for a scandal. A gambling addict whose secret tape threatens the lives of everyone who hears it. New York Times bestselling author Lee Strobel weaves these edgy characters into an intricate thriller set in a gleaming, suburban megachurch, a big-city newspaper struggling for survival, and the shadowy corridors of political intrigue. The unexpected climax is as gripping as the contract killing that punctuates the opening scene.
My Review: Lee Strobel's first work of fiction, THE AMBITION, is a read not to be missed!
I love a great mystery/suspense read and this book begins with mystery/suspense from page one!
The beginning of this read begins with a bookie trying to escape from "someone." He ends up dead! Then there's Tom O'Sullivan-sleazy/corrupt lawyer, there's Gina-the girlfriend who is trying to.do.right, and Garry Strider-newspaper man mad at the church for "moving" his live-in girlfriend out AND the mob!
Of course, when you read about the mob a lot of wonderful Italian food is mentioned. Mama Mia! The lasagna! The pizza! Yum!!
This is a read that will make you think! I found the Mega church world remarkable if not a bit daunting.
The world of deceit, lies and treachery is a life of wrong doing and murder . . . but on the flip side when one trusts in the Lord healing, truth and repentance are life giving and life saving for the truth seeker.
This remarkable work of fiction is an easy read but do set time aside for this novel is 283 pages of pure suspense filled with twists and turns at every chapter!
On pages 285 & 286 I liked the Disclaimers that Mr. Strobel gave. He made note that this is a work of fiction and not facts about any one church or any one mob member.
This is a gripping, compelling novel that brings out The Ambition of those who seek only for themselves!
