If I Run (An If I Run Novel) by Terri Blackstock

Book Description:  Casey knows the truth.

But it won’t set her free.
Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they have failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore.
But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up. Casey Cox doesn’t fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan’s skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn’t guilty, why did she run?
Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan’s damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices. The girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer . . . or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.

My Thoughts: I've waited {im}patiently for this book.  And I promised myself that when it came I would not read it all at once but read it slowly and savor it.  Well, promises were made to be broken.  The afternoon I received this book I thought I'll just read a couple of chapters.  Ahhh!  This story is faced paced.  What a page turner!  I finished this book in the early evening!  Oh, so good!
I love the way that Terri Blackstock is not preachy but she sure puts the Word of the Lord in her reads.
Another strong point of this story is about PTSD.  I never thought about the different aspects PTSD.  Dylan's story is so very different than Casey's but, yet, they shared a good friend who died and now they both need/want answers.  This is the mystery of the story with suspense on every page.
The story as two different aspects...Casey's and Dylan's.  Casey Cox is one smart cookie. And Dylan is a weary young man trying to prove Casey is innocent.  Will they find the answers they seek?
I loved the story!  And even though "parts" of this story ended I truly hope there is book two because I need to know more!
This is a fantabulous read!

About the book:
War, captivity, hunger that will not be denied. And a blackberry moon with enough pull to endure the test of time.

Frontierswoman Adela McGirth has never feared her neighbors, the Creek Indians, but a suspicious encounter with a steely-eyed warrior shakes her confidence. As dreaded, a skirmish with the natives sends her family fleeing into a hastily constructed fort. But no picket is strong enough to hold off a party of warriors who fear nothing but the loss of their ancient ways.

Totka Lawe, a Red Stick bound by honor to preserve his heritage, will do what he must to expel the whites from Muscogee soil. But in the midst of battle, he is assigned to protect those he’s expected to hate and kill. One of whom is the copper-haired woman who has haunted his thoughts since that strange night under the blackberry moon. The war was simpler before his enemy became a beautiful face with a gentle warrior’s spirit he cannot resist.

But what woman would have a warrior whose blood-soaked hands destroyed her life?

Then again...does she have a choice?

Better than Fiction
by
April W Gardner and Michelle Massaro

Romance novelist Meghan Townsend’s marriage is slipping, and no amount of prayer seems to help. She aims to recapture her husband’s waning attention by getting in shape and finds escape by crafting her own fictional love story. Taking inspiration for the hero from a new friend—the attractive, spiritual, and attentive Curtis Jameson—she pours her yearnings onto the page, and craves the kind of pulse-pounding romance found in her book, Racing Hearts

In 1916 Corona, California, motorcars are all the rage, and racing them is what Meghan’s hero, Russell Keegan, does best. But when his competition vandalizes his car, the only mechanic available is a greasy woman in a man’s overalls.

After a racing accident claimed her father’s life, Winifred became the sole breadwinner for her family. She is disdained as a female mechanic, but her daddy's trade is all she has left. Can she swallow her hatred of the races and take up Russell's offer of big bucks to fix his car, or will she lose everything to mounting debt?

Under Meghan's skillful pen, these two embark on a thrilling, adventurous romance. But she finds that writing those love scenes with Curtis’s face in mind takes her heart places it shouldn’t go. Will she realize in time that real life can be better than fiction?

WOW {Warm Oven Wednesday}

Love this easy recipe...it's hard to see but don't forget to add the ground beef (1 or 2 lbs.)
And we don't care for black beans or kidney beans in our chili so I switch these cans out with Navy beans.
This is a GREAT recipe!!

Cats in Paris: A Magical Coloring Book by Won-Sun Jang

Book Description: This gorgeously illustrated adult coloring book draws readers into the secret world of cats in Paris as they explore the city's most famous (and feline-friendly) spots.

Say bonjour to the cats of Paris as they slink through its fabled streets and alleyways, from Montmartre to the Shakespeare and Company bookshop and into a feline-filled land of playful imagination. Featuring intricate pen-and-ink drawings of tabbies, Persians, Siamese, and more, this evocative coloring book’s frisky kitties lie in wait for your colorful stylings.

My Thoughts:  I'm allergic to cats; therefore, that is probably the reason I'm not a cat lover.  But who can resist a cute kitten or pictures of cuddly cats with books?!?
Somehow when cats are pictured with books the place just seems cozy and relaxing, add books and it's a win-win book.
And as you probably know by now . . . there is a big adult coloring book craze.  I'm so happy to be apart of this fabulous craze!  The ironic part of this craze is that I didn't like to color as a child and now I love the relaxing art of coloring.
I've seen and I have some nice coloring books but this is one of the cutest books I've seen yet.  This book has some of the most amazing pictures of Paris.  Ahh, yes.  Its in Paris!  Too cute!
This is one of those books that makes an absolutely wonderful gift for the cat lover or "colorer" on your gift list!  Or better yet, go order your very own Cats in Paris coloring book!
I love this book!

Kissed by a Cowboy (A Four of Hearts Ranch Romance) by Debra Clopton

Book Description:  Cassidy was looking for a home and a place to belong. . . not for a cowboy to steal her heart.
Having lived through her parents’ endless string of “matrimonial bliss gone wrong,” Cassidy Starr knows when the odds are not in her favor. Divorced and humiliated, her faith on rocky ground, Cassidy is through with love. She’s been bucked off that horse far too many times. Instead, she returns to Wishing Springs, Texas, and the rundown farm she’s inherited from her great aunt Roxie. She’ll reopen the strawberry farm and a bed & breakfast and follow in her aunt’s footsteps, remaining forever-independent, happy . . . and single.
Rancher Jarrod Monahan’s hands are full running the ranch, looking after his ailing grandfather, and chasing down a group of rustlers on the loose. He’s pushed his longing for a family to the bottom of his list of priorities. Besides, he was in love once but ran scared and lost his shot at happiness. But suddenly, the biggest regret of his life has moved in next door with a wounded heart, determined to become a spinster . . . and that’s a challenge that Jarrod can’t pass up.
Jarrod sets his mind to breaking down the walls around Cassidy’s stubborn heart. How can he show her that a cowboy’s kiss lasts forever? For the good folks of Wishing Springs, falling in love has never been so much fun to witness.

My Thoughts:  Debra Clopton is another favorite author of mine.  She writes the most humorous, light and clean romances.
When I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by heavier reads I pick a Debra Clopton novel to bring a smile and some fun to by reading life.
Kissed By A Cowboy is the third book in A Four Hearts Ranch Romance series.  These are stand alone reads that all center around ranch life and a cowboy.
This particular story is about divorcee, Cassidy, who decides after reaching rock bottom that she is going to Wishing Springs, Texas, to the rundown farm she inherited from her great aunt, Roxie.
Now Cassidy is done and done with men!  So when she returns to Wishing Springs she is centered on getting her farm up and running.  However, her handsome neighbor, Jarrod Monahan, is determined to get in Cassidy's "space."
A fun, definitely light read full of clean romance.

A Stillness of Chimes by Meg Moseley

Book Description: When Laura Gantt returns to Georgia to handle her late mother's estate, she hears a startling rumor---that her father staged his drowning years ago and has recently been spotted roaming the mountains.

With the help of her former high school sweetheart, Laura searches for the truth. But will what they find destroy their rekindled feelings?

My Thoughts: The Stillness of Chimes by Meg Moseley is quite a mystery!
We meet Laura Gantt who must return to Georgia to oversee her late mother's estate.  However, there is some reminiscing from Laura about her childhood. (I think this is necessary for the reader to gain a background of Laura and what transpired before she grew up).  But when Laura arrives home she begins to hear the small town rumors that her "dead" Vietnam Veteran father who suffers from PTSD is still alive and roams throughout the mountains.
Ahh!  The stress!  Trying to take care of her mother's estate and then to learn that the dad she thought had drowned twelve years earlier is now alive!
Thankfully, her best friend Carrie is there for her and then Sean, her ex-boyfriend, comes back into her life.  Sean is a wonderful friend and begins to help Laura try to unravel the mystery of the roaming vet.
This is an interesting read.
Sean and Laura seem to have a relationship that comes and goes but mostly goes.  Poor Sean!
This is an interesting read with twists and turns that makes the reader keep reading just find out "what in the world is going on!"  Quite an ending!
Meg Moseley never writes and ordinary tale...she pens stories that have quirky characters, relationships that seem real.to.life and endings that the reader may never guess!

Mermaid Moon {A Sunset Cove Novel} by Colleen Coble

Book Description:  Mallory’s mother died fifteen years ago. But her father’s last words on the phone were unmistakable: “Find . . . mother.”
Shame and confusion have kept Mallory Davis from her home for the last fifteen years, but when her dad mysteriously dies on his mail boat route, she doesn’t have any choice but to go back to Mermaid Point.
Mallory believes her father was murdered and childhood sweetheart Kevin O’Connor, game warden in Downeast Maine, confirms her suspicions. But Kevin is wary of helping Mallory in her search. She broke his heart and left—without a word—years ago.
When Mallory begins receiving threats on her own life—and her beloved teenage daughter, Haylie—their search intensifies. There’s a tangled web within the supposed murder, and it involves much more than what meets the eye.
As answers begin to fall into place, Mallory realizes her search is about more than finding her father’s killer—it is also about finding herself again . . . and possibly about healing what was broken so long ago with Kevin. She just has to stay alive long enough to put all the pieces together.

My Thoughts:  At first I didn't understand the title to this book, Mermaid Moon seemed like it might be a moon with a special meaning but no, Mermaid Moon is named after a place Mermaid Point in Maine.
This is the second book in the Sunset Cove series.  And packs quite a punch.
As the story begins we find that Mallory has been away from home for fifteen years.  Mallory decides to go back to Mermaid Point because she believes that her father was murdered.  And when she gets home her childhood sweetheart, Kevin O'Connor confirms her fears.
As Mallory begins to search for answers...including the mystery of her father's last words to her, "Find . . . mother."
What a read!
The cat and mouse game, the twist and turns in this suspense read are all trademarks of Colleen Coble's great writing.
Even though Mallory went home to find answers to her father's death, she ends up finding out more about herself and the man she left behind.
I loved this read...I hope you will check it out, too!

Burning Proof (Cold Case Justice) by Janice Cantore

Book Description:  After months of investigating the brutal homicide of a young girl, Detective Abby Hart finally has the evidence she needs. But when the arrest goes terribly wrong, Abby begins to doubt her future as a police officer. As she wrestles with conflicting emotions, old questions about the fire that took her parents’ lives come back to haunt her.
“There is proof.” PI Luke Murphy can’t stop thinking about what Abby’s former partner, Asa Foster, mumbled just before he died. When he uncovers a clue to the murder of Abby’s parents and his uncle, he’s reluctant to tell Abby, despite his growing feelings for the beautiful detective.
A decade-old abduction case brings Luke and Abby together, but will his secret tear them apart?

My Thoughts:  After reading Janice Cantor's first book, Drawing Fire, in the Cold Case Justice series I was anxiously awaiting this second book, Burning Proof.
I love that the book cover to this book kind.of matches the book cover of the first book . . . Abby is depicted as the same person on both covers but with different scenarios. Oh, and Luke Murphy, PI is in both books too.
Drawing Fire is a different story than Burning Proof . . . stand alone reads.
When Abby becomes discouraged when she arrests the culprit to the homicide that she's been working on for months and then it all goes horribly down hill.  She wonders if the should even be a police officer.
Ahh, I love Luke.  He encourages Abby to continue and tells her, "There is proof."
Every woman needs a man like Luke to encourage her and help her get going.
There are secrets that come to light as the case begins to unravel.  It seems that Abby and Luke need to trust each other more.
I enjoyed this fast paced, easy to read, not overly complicated story.

Back in the Saddle: A Novel (Double S Ranch) by Ruth Logan Herne

Book Description:  It’s been a long time since Colt Stafford shrugged off his cowboy legacy for shiny Manhattan loafers and a promising career on Wall Street. But when stock market manipulations leave him financially strapped, the oldest son of legendary rancher Sam Stafford decides to return to the sprawling Double S ranch in Gray’s Glen, Washington. He’s broke, but not broken, and it’s time to check in with his ailing father, and get his legs back under him by climbing into the saddle again.

He doesn’t expect to come home to a stranger pointing a loaded gun at his chest— a tough yet beautiful woman that Sam hired as the house manager. Colt senses there’s more to Angelina Morales than meets the eye and he’s determined to find out what she’s hiding...and why.

Colt’s return brings new challenges. Younger brother Nick has been Sam’s right-hand man at the ranch for years and isn’t thrilled at having Colt insert himself into Double S affairs. And the ranch’s contentious relationship with the citizens of Gray’s Glen asks all the Stafford men to examine their hearts about what it truly means to be a neighbor.  And as Wall Street recovers, will Colt succumb to the call of the financial district’s wealth and power—or finally the courage to stay in the saddle for good?

My Thoughts:  Another new author for me, Ruth Herne writes a contemporary western . . . pretty much like the cowboys of today.
The story introduces Colt Stafford, a worker on Wall Street.    But as Wall Street is known to do,"it" has made a poor man of Colt.  Colt decides to return to his father's ranch.
When he makes his way back home one of the first people he meets is Angelina Morales, his father's house manager.
Angelina has some "issues" of her own.
As  Colt and Angelina work on the ranch and become acquainted they begin to have feelings for each other.
But  Colt, much like the prodigal son, feels that he needs to prove something to his dad.    Angelina works hard but finds it hard to come to grips with Colt.
As Wall Street begins to recover Colt feels that the draw to return to wealth and power but yet  . . . he enjoys the ranch.
An interesting read that includes cowboys, horses and love.

Threads of Faith (Fabric of Time Series, Book Two) by Andrea Boeshaar

Book Description: Can Julianna and Daniel start a new life in a new country?
Julianna Wayland is running for her life! She hides in a crate on London’s dock, only to be loaded onto a ship bound for America. During the voyage she meets Captain Daniel Sundberg, and by the time they reach New York’s harbor, she is certain she’s in love with him. The only problem is, Daniel has plans for himself--plans that don’t include her.

As Julianna struggles to find her way in a new world, will trouble from her past derail the life she is looking for?

My Thoughts: Threads of Time by Andrea Boeshaar is the second book in the Fabric of Time Series.  Having read book one, Threads of Hope, I was anxious to read this book, book two.
I was enthralled with the cover of this book and the title...Threads of Faith brings to mind many pieces of string that are woven together to make a beautiful fabric . . . in my mind somewhat of an imagery of our lives and how God, through our lives, makes a beautiful fabric from our faith and hope in Him.
It seems that book one is about the courage of Kristen but book two is about Julianna and she's running away.  In fact, she becomes a stowaway on Captain Daniel Sundberg's ship by accident!  Julianna had hidden in a crate not knowing it was to be loaded on a ship.  And that the ship would be sailing immediately.  Oh! the horror!  Oh! the fright!
Julianna and her "accident" become a thread. . . .another thread in her
faith.
This story seemed like a stand alone read . . . Julianna's story. But it never hurts to read the first story before reading the second {smile}.

A great adventurous read incorporating love and faith!

A truly enjoyable read...this book/this series would make a great gift for that reader on your Christmas list.

COTT {Clash of the Titles} Spotlight on "Anything for a Story" by Cynthia Hickey

Spotlight on "Anything for a Story" by Cynthia Hickey

Stormi is delightful as the accident prone and bumbling wanna be detective. What she lacks in skill she makes up for in nosiness. Add in the sexy detective and a slightly nutty family and our lead character has her hands full.
~Amazon reviewer

A note from the author, Cynthia Hickey:

"Why I Became a Writer"

Funny how this roller-coaster business can tug on someone until it’s either write or die. A bit dramatic, yes, but that’s how most writers feel.

I started reading at the young age of five and became hooked on words and stories. Being a shy child, I would make up stories to act out, but it wasn’t until Junior High when an English teacher assigned a
writing project that I realized how much I loved putting the story to paper. I began writing short stories in which my younger brother was featured as the hero, or I’d write a romance featuring me and whatever boy I had a crush on at the time.

When I turned fifteen, I wrote my first “real story” about terrorists taking over a high school. Funny how I have now seen that very plot made into a movie. I couldn’t be stopped after that first “book.” I kept writing, keeping my stories in a notebook, which I unfortunately lost when I married and moved out of state. Then, life happened and I didn’t take up writing again until the age of forty when my children were older and I had time to devote to it.

In 2007, I published my first cozy mystery, Fudge-Laced Felonies, with Barbour Publishing and haven’t slowed down since. Forty books later, and several genres added to the mix, I have no intentions of stopping this crazy career any time soon. It’s as much a part of me as breathing.

About the author:
Multi-published and Amazon Best-Selling author Cynthia Hickey had three cozy mysteries and two novellas published through Barbour Publishing. She had several historical romances release in 2013, 2014, 2015 through Harlequin’s Heartsong Presents, and has sold half a million copies of her works. She is active on FB, twitter, and Goodreads, and is a contributor to Cozy Mystery Magazine blog and Suspense Sisters blog. She and her husband run the small press, Forget Me Not Romances, which includes some of the CBA’s well-known authors. She lives in Arizona with her husband, one of their seven children, two dogs, two cats, three box turtles, and two Sulcata tortoises. She has seven grandchildren who keep her busy and tell everyone they know that “Nana is a writer”. Visit her website at www.cynthiahickey.com

Wounded by God's People by Anne Graham Lotz

Book Description: As the daughter of Billy and Ruth Graham, Lotz has lived among the faithful all her life---and knows that we are quite capable of hurting one another! Drawing wisdom from the biblical story of Abraham and Hagar, she explores the ways in which the wounded can become wounders themselves---and points us toward God's merciful healing grace.

My Thoughts:  Reading Wounded by God's People by Anne Graham Lotz was like drinking a refreshing swig of cold water on a hot summer day.
I have often wondered why God's people, the very people who are suppose to show love, compassion and forgiveness, can be the most spiteful and mean to other christians and people?  The answer may lie in what Anne Graham Lotz calls the "wounders."  Those people, wounders,  have been wounded themselves so they want to strike out at others.
Throughout this read the story of Hagar and how she was severely wounded by Abraham and Sarah is the guideline for forgiveness and mercy.  While reading this book I saw that the "wounder" is not always or may never be the one who forgives but we must always draw closer to God for He is the healer of wounds.
This is an easy to read not a dry philosophical book.  Anne Graham Lotz shares her hurts, sorrows and the love of Jesus.  More like a story within a story.
I loved this book and will probably read it more than twice!  I,also, think this book would make a great gift for someone who may be going through a wounded time in his life.
